Bargaining Update

Dear members,

Bargaining has officially begun! We have just met with UNB to respectfully present our proposal for the new GSTA/GSRA collective agreement. This first proposal package discusses non-monetary issues. Please see both UNB’s proposal and our Union proposals (attached). We have secured four additional dates in August to meet with UNB to discuss these proposals further.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or suggestions for the content of these proposals. These contracts affect your future working conditions and we want to ensure your needs are met.

Highlights from our proposal:

  • Establish two UNB-led orientations for GSTAs and GSRAs per year with Union representation (Articles 7.05 – 7.06)
  • Establish intersectional, interactive trainings regarding discrimination and harassment (including specific complaint mechanisms at UNB; Articles 9.02 - 9.04)
  • Allow greater time to file a grievance for discrimination and harassment (Article 19.08)
  •  Create a weekly $100 penalty to UNB for late or incorrect pay, payable to the affected student (Articles 27.04 - 27.06)

The members of UNB’s bargaining team are:

  • Kevin Englehart, Associate Dean (School of Graduate Studies)
  • Ryan Johnston, University General Counsel
  • James Keiffer, Associate Dean (SJ)
  • Anne MacLean, Labor Relations Specialist, People & Culture
  • Sue O’Donnell, Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies

In solidarity,

UGSW
