Hello members!
Please join us on April 26th, 2022 at 4:00pm for our Annual General Membership Meeting. We will be giving updates on union activities (including collective bargaining) and holding elections for several positions including Co-director 1 (graduate students), Co-director 2 (post-docs), Chief Steward, and Executives at Large. See below for details about each role. The meeting will take place via Zoom and the link will be posted prior to the meeting. Membership involvement is very important during the collective bargaining process so please consider showing up and supporting your union!
Co-directors (1 and 2)
• Spokespersons of UGSW
• Liaises between UGSW and membership, UNB administration, and external bodies
• Facilitates the smooth operation of the Executive Committee in order to meet the Union’s goals
• Represents the Executive Committee at the negotiation table with UNB
• The Co-directors are essentially the presidents of UGSW
• This position receives a monthly stipend
Chief Steward
• Having a network of active Stewards is key to the success of any union
• Stewards represent different groups of members (e.g., departments, international students, LGBTQ+) and are the link between UGSW and our membership
• The main role of the Chief Steward is to organize, chair and maintain this network of Stewards
• This position receives a monthly stipend
Executives at Large
• A less official but nonetheless crucial position in the union
• A good starting spot for members wanting to get involved but not take on too much responsibility
• Serve as Steward of your respective department or a distinct group of our membership
